The University of the West of Scotland has 5 main campuses 4 of which are situated within Scotland being at Paisley, Hamilton, Ayr and Dumfries along with their London Campus. They have also built various Partnerships throughout the World with leading Universities.
The University throughout the last 3 years has built a sizable network within all of its buildings in each of its sites.
One of the main aims was to consolidate the majority of the infrastructure by having its own Granular Modular Data Centre constructed within the Paisley Campus. Mr David Johnston Depute Director of Information Technology and Digital Services stated that having this facility within one campus, will allow the University to be in total control of the Network at all times.
Student safety during construction was also of paramount concern and the Cannon Geodesic hand assembled frame system ensured that students walking nearby were in no way endangered, during the construction process. The system introduces aerospace techniques into the construction. In fact the assembly process was so discrete that few realised that it was going on, which is a great accolade to the “Cannon Geodesic system".
The Cannon Data Campus is populated with best of breed, award winning infrastructure. This includes 1200 deep Cannon Server Smart racks to accommodate the latest deep servers and 1200 wide aisles to enable efficient work practice.
The Cannon Data Campus is designed to perform with low PUE and resilience. Easy expansion and power/capacity upgrades had to be easily achievable in the future to prolong the life of the asset and reduce ongoing cost.
This new Data Centre came in on time, on budget and on specification No overruns, no dramas no pain.
I can say that Cannon is fully deserving of the many awards that they have received for their exceptional solutions and for their customer care. We are truly confident that we have a state of the art, holistic facility with an exceptional range of cutting edge features".
We are all excited about this project and it sets a high standard for our future development.
